Your little friends Frisk and Fi are well. And the Chick is getting on first class. I am very busy with Court matters at present so you must excuse me not sending you a long letter. Mother and Ollie are writing and have promised to send you all the latest news. War matters are fairly brisk. Our soldiers are doing great work. Prior to the opening of the Daintree to Mossman road transport to Daintree was by boat from Port Douglas or by foot or horseback (6 to 8 hours) from Mossman. Townsville Bulletin 5/7/1929: Barrett's Creek Bridge Is now completed, but not yet open for traffic The opening I trust will be an outstanding event for Dalntree, somewhere In the near future. Some of the employees engaged on the bridge were farewelled on Saturday last at a dance held at the factory, when amost enjoyable evening was spent in dancing and other amusements. As the tennis court is now completed, I am informed the opening ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 21st, preceded by a dance on the Saturday night. I understand -that Port Douglas, Mossman and SaltwaterTennis Clubs are being invited, and any who care to come. The full moon will be on the 22nd. good big tides should enable launch parties to arrive without any trouble, and It is hoped that a good crowd will attend to try their luck on the Daintree court.'Series: Kerswell family -

This is the Kuranda at the Port Douglas Wharf. Mabel Lematy is still in the hospital. It has been very dry up here in these last few weeks. The journey to Mossman by horse took about 6 to 8 hours as Barratt Creek, influenced by tides, could only be negotiated safely at low tide until a bridge was built in 1929. However, Daintree was ably serviced by sailing boat to Port Douglas and Cairns. Later the Osborne Brothers supplied a very efficient transport service by motor launch."Series: Harlow Family Collection -
