Comments: In the early 1980s, pressure was growing for the missing road link between Cape Tribulation and Bloomfield to be completed. This was supported by Douglas Shire Council and the State Government .
In November 1983, a small group of residents organised a protest to stop work on a road being built from Cape Tribulation to Bloomfield on the basis it would bring unwanted development to an area of high environmental significance.
In December 1983, Douglas Shire Council bulldozers arrived to construct the road. Protestors tried to prevent the work from commencing and set up a camp at Cape Tribulation. Police were called to remove protestors - the Daintree Blockade begins.
The road was opened on 7/10/1984
